GGR at Alameda 8/17/19

#1 Post by sl951 » Mon Aug 19, 2019 8:20 am

A fun day without the heatwave.
This was my last run with a +1 at the end.

Over 220 views and no comments? I guess you were just too slow Steve.

Nice. I need a good action cam upgrade. Is the new GoPro still the industry standard?

Nice run Steve. Looked slow because you were very smooth!
Mike, I am using Gopro 6 Black for a while and swear by the image quality and stabilization. The new Gopro 7 seems to have better stabilization algorithm. If you like the feel of your camera being on a gimball, that's the way to go. As a bonus, these cameras come with GPS chip that allows you to overlay telemetry data on your video.

That sounds ideal. I'll look into that. Thanks

@hpatel I'd like to overlay data but have no OBD on my vintage car. Any suggestions? I'd like to compare runs, etc... Which software are you using?

mikey, no need for an OBD to overlay data. what you need is the app, GPS and action cam. if you have an android device solostorm is the industry standard and will automatically sync and overlay video with newer gopro cameras.
if you have apple phone or tablet some of the guys and i are trying out RaceChrono. it will also automaticaly sync and overlay video with newer gopro or you can manually do it to any video that you can play back on your device. that is what i did for the video i posted in the RaceChrono thread. check it out.

Great, thanks. I would be using my Android device. I'll look into SoloStorm. Do I need a separate GPS device or does the latest GoPro suffice?

you need to get an external GPS. both software makers mention the gps functionality in the new gopro but say it is not accurate enough. https://www.petreldata.com/gps-for-motorsports/
check out the solostorm package page for what they recommend.
