What is ideal tie down setup for wood deck trailers?

Postby Phat B » Tue Mar 30, 2010 2:49 am

I just bought some of the d ring tie downs. Will be mounting them to the trailer soon. What is best tie down strap to use? Is tire strap the best bet?

I have been associated with towing cars with trailers that used straps thru the wheels at each corner and the straps that go over the wheels...either is fine, depending on the amount of space you have between spokes of the wheels for the thru straps...
and you must also make sure the strap does not go over the valve stem when going thru the wheels :o

I have been using the same ratcheting straps through the spokes for about five years now.
I'm using the yellow, wide, heavy duty ones. They are just starting to show some wear.
The straps that came with them were about 20 feet long, so I cut them to the size I needed and seared the ends to prevent fraying.
