2012 Tundra towing a loaded 24' TPD trailer

Postby HalM3 » Tue Jun 05, 2012 7:25 pm

Tryed it out for the first time down to Marina. The mileage was far less than I expected at 9.43. Didn't exceed 55mph, tires were also inflated: Truck was 38psi and the trailer was 55psi. The combined weight was 13,500lbs however.

Any suggestions on how to increase the mpg?

Hal, are the truck tires rated at only 38psi?
9+ isnt that bad for a brand new truck...how many miles are on it?
you are now pulling a big brick through the air...
For a gasser truck that mileage isnt bad.
Wind and terrain will greatly effect your mileage with a gasser.
From what I have heard, the 5.7L Tundra is not a gas sipper even solo, let alone pulling ~6K pounds with no aero.

if you want better mileage buy a diesel! :o ;)

Tires are really 34psi and I aired them up. Only has 1600 miles on it now. We service/repair several 6.0/7.3 Fords and some GMC Durmax and when they break, they break in a big way which is why we went for gas. The truck was a great deal since we purchase OE parts from that dealership.

I have a 2008 Chevy Duramax and it is wonderful hooked to the 6 speed Allison automatic transmission.

I get 12-14mpg pulling our 8k pound RV that has a bigger frontal area than a TPD. I have pulled a TPD with my truck before and gotten right about 15mpg...

I get 18mpg pulling an open trailer with a 914 or 911 on it...

I pulled the same RV for 10 years with a 5.3L Suburban....;;;;;;;9-11 was the mileage depending on terrain and wind direction.

Your mileage will slightly increase when the motor gets fully broken in....around 12K miles...
