Technology - remarkable...

Postby KenJ » Thu Mar 15, 2018 3:36 pm

I don't know how many of you visit GGR's bulletin board (this is not a promotion), but I've just seen an animation of this type for the first time. A GGR autocrosser, Himanshu Patel, has shared a program he uses (or created?) that converted the new course map for this Saturday into a 3D run. It's really, really remarkable. You can visualize the course as if you're running it. Wow. Maybe some of you already use this technology?

Now that's cheating! I'm totally envious.

GGR - bulletin board - autocross - course map. Get ready to be amazed, well at least for those non-technowizards like me.

Yes, that is really cool! But also one step closer to us standing on the sidelines watching our autonomous cars compete on course . . .

Just think of the implications:
- We'll need special classes for human-driven cars.
- Drivers of autonomous cars can enjoy a beer while autocrossing.
- We'll have to assign high point values to course workers so the cars' "minimize time" algorithms don't come up with undesired creative solutions.
- Would we still have to wear Snell-approved helmets?
- Looks like the handing-out-timing-slips job might become obsolete.

Yes, very neat indeed!
Himanshu did it using SolidWorks.

And DaveMcG, thanks for that peek into our bright future.
I think I'll go play with my slot car set now...
