9A1 Cayman SCCA Solo FP car

Postby grant » Thu May 05, 2016 10:09 pm

Looking to build a 9A1 Cayman FP car. 2577lbs 360 HP. Was going to start build this car in winter but decided to accelerate things by selling buggy and focusing on Porsche build before hillclimbs. After running buggy at high speeds at crows realized its not car I want to be in over 65 MPH with my driving style at hillclimbs. Far too dangerous for my comfort with way too many potential failure points. Would have taken far too much work to bring car to my standards.

All parts either have been in my garage for nearly a year or are inbound. JRZ coil overs, Tarret GT3 suspension bits, GT3 swaybars, lightweight flywheel, wevo engine and tranny mounts, long tube headers, GT3 TB, IPD intake manifold, Fabspeed race intake, Recaro Profi race seat. Momo wheel, Guard LSD, GT Racing hatch and front end, still sourcing fiberglass doors, TC Design rear roll bar, Avon slicks. Starting as narrow body but looking to go wide body long term with 18x12 inch rears and 18x11 inch fronts. :lol1:

Should be interesting car as it will be down on power from Turbo AWD cars in FP but should handle better and will be more powerful than lighter small displacement cars but carry more weight. Should be fun PCA car as it should give GT3's and 914s a run for their money. Should be able to run lighter in PCA. Suspect Ill get it to 2400 lbs. Car already stripped of over 100 lbs of interior crap in prep for roll bar.

Cool!

What's it take to get 360HP Grant?

Caymans handle so good!

360 is my optimistic target. 350 at crank is probably closer with 9A1 motor. Race gas tune,987.2 Competition 82mm IPD Plenum, 997 GT3 82mm TB, Race intake, Long tube headers, AC and PS delete, port work should get me close.

This development was a long time ago Grant: http://www.914world.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=176298

So by now they're probably way beyond the figures mentioned. Might be interesting to talk with Charles.

Yes im sure that will be an eventual focus area. However if I get to point of pulling heads I will likely look at much bigger displacement and move car to XP.

I like your initial plan for engine development.

Are you going to put your "diet" ideas to work on the Cayman, like you did with the Boxster? Seems that losing some serious weight would be much cheaper than Stage II or III engine development, at least looking at Raby's prices, if they are indeed a baseline.
